/ HOME EMBRACED BY NATURAL WATER SOURCES IN NYC

Built for a family of six to enjoy coastal living, the Sagaponack House in New York is a modern dream home embraced by natural water sources on both sides. While large in size at 8,965 square feet, the comparative footprint was restrained, while sustainability was a key element of the overall program by Bates Masi + Architects.

From the exterior, Corten steel and organically-treated cedar siding and screens are no-maintenance materials enhanced by natural weathering. This family-friendly retreat features a swimming pool, pool house, garage and sports court, making it an ideal setting for indoor/outdoor gatherings.

The elevated box structure respects stringent land and water preservation efforts in place, with efficient utilization of space including some which retain dual-purposes. One such zone is the living area, which via partition walls can be transformed into self-contained media room.

The real beauty of this minimalist home is the relentless expansion to the outdoors. Fully retractable floor-to-ceiling glass doors on both the front and rear facades engage the water-views, while fresh air and natural light perpetually douse the interiors.

The interior palette of driftwood-grey wood alongside white and sand, captures the home’s seascape surroundings. One of our favorite spaces is an oceanfront bedroom wrapped in weathered wood and detailed with plush white linens–such a serene space with direct beach views akin to a postcard. A master bathroom suite features plentiful glazing, including a terrace adjacent to the geometric soaking tub, allowing for a salt-air bathing experience. Exquisite!
