With her style recognizable at first glance, Kelly Wearstler has become a household name in interior design. Having boasted A-list celebrity homes like Gwen Stefani, Ben Stiler and Cameron Diaz and doing delicate work in hospitality, Wearstler is one of the top interior designers that signs her work with a provocative and expensive narrative.
Kelly Wearstler was born in Myrtle Beach, South California, United States of America, on the 21st November 1967. Her passion for the arts was first shown when she enrolled in Massachusetts College, in Boston, having later completed an internship with Milton Glaser in New York. She later moved to Los Angeles to establish her studio in 1995. After that, she started her own firm called Kelly Wearstler Interior Design.
Nowadays, Kelly Wearstler’s work is defined as a superb hospitality design. Last year, she completed San Francisco Proper Hospitality and is now focused on three other Proper projects that will be based in Los Angeles, Austin, and Santa Monica. Being hospitality one of the main areas in Kelly Wearstler’s work, her enthusiasm for travellers, their thrill to live in the moment and their constant will to seek adventure is one of her inspirations. For Wearsley, “there’s a thrill to designing environments for people to expand their experiences.”
Kelly Wearstler’s aesthetics is something of an extra stimulation sensory experience. Her main inspiration is the outdoors as she grew up near the beach. A lot of the materials the top designer uses rely on natural textures and colours. Earthy elements that imply transformation and evolution like stone, luxe woods and patina metal are in a big part of her creations. In her own words, “to my thinking, there is no place for rigidity in design. A constant evolution is what inspires.”
Among Wearstler’s most memorable works are San Francisco Proper Hotel, Four Seasons Anguilla, BG Restaurant at Bergdorf Goodman, the Viceroy Hotels and Residences, Tides Miami and high-profile celebrity clients.
Wearstler’s main academic training is in interior, architectural and graphic design. As some of the many of her accomplishments, Kelly Wearstler is part of Architectural Digest 2016’s Top 100 architects and interior design list, Elle Decor Best Designers A-List, again in 2016, and Wallpaper Top 20 Interior Designers.
